The Mecanum wheel is a wheel design that can move the vehicle in any direction.
Tracked vehicles and skid steer vehicles often drag across the ground when turning and can cause considerable damage to soft or fragile surfaces. The high friction on the ground when turning also requires a high-torque engine to overcome friction. In contrast, the Mecanum wheel design allows for in-situ rotation with minimal ground friction and low torque.
